Sex therapy in San Diego by Certified Sex Therapist

Dr. MacIlvaine

Is sex therapy "far out?"

Not at all.

Almost all therapists

do sex therapy as part of

ordinary psychotherapy,

because...

all emotional issues have sexual components.

But an AASECT-Certified

Sex Therapist has more knowledge and expertise

for seeing the whole picture.

That's holistic.

Dr. MacIlvaine has

over 20 years of experience

providing holistic,

mind-body psychotherapy

for sexual and

relationship problems.

She knows the physiology

of sexuality and emotions - and how sexual issues

connect with physical and emotional health.

Usually people have intimate problems because they are unconsciously blocking

their natural life energy.

After all, sex is about the natural energy of being alive.

It is very ordinary today

to address emotional issues relating to sex.

Even "Dear Abby" helps people get information

about sex.

"Dear Abby's" favorite

sex information websites are:

www.iwannaknow.org

and

www.teenwire.com

and

www.familiesaretalking.org

Other sex-info websites

are listed on this page

in four paragraphs,

over to the right and

down in the Links asection .

Emotions are

connected to sexual health.

Emotional repression

always goes hand in hand

with constrained energy flow and limitations in a person's

sexual experience.

Powerful, inner biological forces govern human life.

The biological capacity

of humans to be free

and enjoy relationships

depends upon the

emotional health

of the individual.

But remember:

PROFESSIONAL THERAPY

NEVER INCLUDES SEX

Dr. MacIlvaine helps people recognize when sexual conflicts

are the result of unresolved emotional issues, such as anxiety or anger.

In such cases , the underlying disturbances become the focus of therapy,

so therapy gets to the root of the problem.

Dr. MacIlvaine uses a holistic approach

based on decades of work with life energy.

Most sexual problems are caused because

individuals unconsciously block and restrict the flow of healthful energy in their bodies. These blocks cause healthy impulses to be distorted,

so peoples' efforts toward love easily go wrong.

Making changes at this level requires a different way of thinking:

functional thinking.

Sexual problems are deeper than psychology.

They involve character structure, physiology, biology, and

the basic energetic principles of how healthy living organisms function freely.

Keep in mind as you read advice online that some sex information is written by people with superficial understanding or distorted attitudes. Even guidance that may be helpful for most people could be harmful for people with other character structures. Individualized help can be better because it's based on your own particular situation.

The most common sexual problems seen today are lack of desire, reliance on internet sex, compulsive or meaningless sex, sex for control, lack of arousal , lack of orgasm, erectile or ejaculation problems in men, sexual avoidance, gender identity issues, and carry-overs from sexual abuse in childhood or emotional neglect. Naturally, there are also problems caused by stress, tiredness, and other environmental or relationship issues. And there's the immense, underlying problem of people not feeling alive: "I don't feel anything."

Services
Sex therapy includes knowledge about sexual functioning, anatomy, expectations, etc., often with homework assignments to try new behaviors.
Individual therapy treats a person’s own psychological functioning and provides the best opportunity for dealing with character and emotional armoring.
I also provide Child Psychology for children's behavioral issues, especially involving pelvic or sexual concerns.

I provide equal access to treatment for people of all persuasions, orientations, and ethnic identities. I work with personality disorders if the person is cooperative with treatment. I don’t treat groups -- or provide court-mandated therapy or other coerced treatment.

I do not prescribe medication. However, I coordinate treatment with psychiatrists or other physicians who prescribe antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.

I take appointments seriously and am available at the appointed time. I ask people to let me know 48 hours in advance in order to cancel or reschedule. I can be somewhat flexible about unforeseen emergencies or illnesses. I ask clients to agree that if they "no-show," they will be responsible for paying for my time.

My fee is $150 per hour. Although I don't accept any insurance, I keep a limited number of slots available for people who need a reduced fee or a sliding scale. Please feel free to inquire. All inquiries are treated confidentially.

Sex therapy never involves sexual activities, nudity, or demonstrations.
