Biographical Information:
Dr. MacIlvaine is a local psychologist specializing in mind-body health and sex therapy. She is a Certified Sex Therapist through AASECT (The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists). She is a provider-member of the National Vulvodynia Association. Her private practice is located in Kensington. She did her undergraduate work at UC Berkeley with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Her doctoral work was at CSPP Fresno, now part of Alliant University. Her most significant professional influence has been the work of Wilhelm Reich, MD. She presents her perspective on the web at sextherapysandiego.com and emotionalcontact.com.
Goals and Course Description
Low sexual desire has emerged as the most prevalent sexual concern among today's adults, undermining health and work productivity, as well as relationship satisfaction, parenting, and family stability.
This workshop will focus on holistic treatment of low sexual desire, with case histories of individuals and couples. Power point images will illustrate the theory of mind-body functioning, integrating sexuality, life energy, and cognitive/emotional defenses. The impact of character on sexual desire will be discussed with an introduction to phallic, hysteric, oral, and masochistic character structures.
